"Smart Events Conference Mobile" is the consumer-facing part of the Active Conference Product line that allows Tradeshow & Conference attendees to view upcoming presentations, add items to their schedule, facilitate networking, and more. Originally a product of the Business Solutions Group from ACTIVE Network, it has now been absorbed by Lanyon Solutions, Inc. and, with that exchange, my involvement with the product ended. However, I did design & set the groundwork for the final product.

The original application was fairly boring and failed to engage users which caused it to become lost in the menagerie of other conference-related applications currently on the market. As a result, I was asked to redesign our product, to reimagine what the application could be, without limitations. To do this, I started by going through our current product, competing applications, and user data to build in-depth personas and user stories to see what the main goals and motivations for using the app could be.

The end result is a design that is not only easy & enjoyable to use, but also attempts to become a personal assistant for each of the attendees. This is accomplished by not only allowing users to browse conference session guides, but by also recommending sessions for the user to attend (based on their personal interests & past history) and how to get to them. It also utilizes push notifications to provide real-time data, reminders, & event-related content to the user so that they can be sure that they don't miss out on anything! Users are also encouraged to network with others by allowing users to connect, message, and arrange business meetings with speakers & other attendees.

For testing purposes, I built my wireframes at a high fidelity so that we could get user feedback before the development process began & to pitch the product to potential customers. Both groups gave rave reviews and were excited to see the concept come to fruition.

hi!

My name's Brian and I'm an Industrial and User Experience Designer currently living in San Diego, CA with a passion for designing simple and elegant solutions to complex problems.

I obtained my BFA in Industrial Design at Carnegie Mellon University in 2012 and spent a semester abroad at the Technische Universiteit Eindhoven in the Netherlands, studying interaction design and traveling Eastern Europe to enrich and broaden my views. After that, I interned with Walt Disney Imagineering and found a love for creating products and experiences that excite & enrich people's lives.
